I am still trying to figure out the direction for this blog. I am a web designer and I am not even commiting to a design yet. Yes I am using a template, although nice it is a bit of a cop out for me to use a template. I will update this description when I come up with a direction for this blog.

Update: Picture Frames are done

Picture Frames:
I am making Picture frames for my art work. I want to replace the metal frames the pictures are framed in now. I have two frames built one is on the second coat of oil finish and the other is on the first coat.
The molding for these frames came from our house in Minneapolis. I was going to keep building frames until the stock was all gone, but as I think about it I will keep it for the series I am working on that relates to this time and place in our lives.

Bella At The Beach

Here are some new pictures of Bella, Mom, Auntie and Grandma at Myrtle Beach. Diana's Mom rented a condo for the month of March right on the beach, this is one of the reason we moved to NC. Bella loves the water

Getting Stuff Done, well sort of

I love cooking with fresh herbs, Right now the herbs I use to cook with are sitting in these paper planting pots frome home depot. Although they are a pretty good size they will never last on the front porch, the dogs will destroy them. There is another problem, it is a hassle to water these plants because of their location, and they lose sunlight in the late afternoon. And lastly I want to be able to easily bring the whole thing inside in the cold months so I have fresh herbs year round. To solve these problems I am making a stand for my herbs . The project will include a pvc system for watering so that I can connect a hose to the stand and have the hose on a timer so that the plants are watered every day even if we are gone. The water will come out in a fine mist every few hours, just like in the grocery store. I am going to put the whole thing on wheels so that I can move the stand inside or just put it in a better spot for sun light. I will post the progress tomorrow.

She is a contender

My Daughter has quick hands, and look at the way she uses the jab. Okay lets face it folks I have a problem! Hello My name is Dustin and I am a Daddy Blogger. Okay, whew, I have taken the first step towards recovery which is admitting I have a problem. I can't stop my self from making this blog an on line refridgerator full of proud parent stuff. My child consumes so much of my thought time. When I sit down to write, or draw, or design about something other than my daughter nothing comes out. You know, like the freaky stories you hear about where people receive the gift of tongues and when they go to speak in english nothing understandable comes out. I have heard that people go days without being able to speak normal. I have been slain in the spirit and filled with the Holy Ghost. I have been givin' the gift of parenthood so please hang out in the kitchen if you are not interested, I will post something other than Bella on the fridge as soon as I am able.
So until then check out this video footage of BELLA!

Worthy to be on the web

Okay so we didn't win an award for our website billygraham.org but at least we got a little respect. we got what I consider an honorable mention which isn't bad since 4300 sites were entered. Webby awards deems a site to be web worthy based upon the quality of the site. My boss summed up in an email what it means to be "Web Worthy".
The Webby Awards is a nationally known web awards program that recognizesoutstanding work in communication through the internet. Their site describes the program this way.

"The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence in Web design, creativity, usability and functionality. Established in 1996 during the web's infancy, the Webbys are presented by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 500-member body of leading web experts, business figures, luminaries, visionaries and creative celebrities.

Reflecting the tremendous growth of the Internet as a tool for business and everyday lives, the upcoming 9th Annual Webby Awards will greatly expand the mission of the Webby by honoring excellence in over 60 categories.

The Academy is an intellectually diverse organization....."

The copy goes on to describe the members of its judging committee which includes political columnists, rock musicians, cartoonists and other writers and editors from major news organizations.

While we did not get nominated in any categories for an award (we entered the Religious and Spirituality category), we were recognized as "Webby Worthy" which is described this way. "As a result of the exceptional quality of submissions this year, for the first time ever, the 9th Annual Webby Awards is recognizing sites, and the teams behind them, that demonstrate a standard of excellence. Although these sites were not chosen as Nominees, being selected as Webby Worthy is a significant achievement.

Of the more than 4,000 entries submitted to the 9th Annual Webby Awards, fewer than 20% were deemed Webby Worthy. This honor signifies an outstanding caliber of work. Congratulations to all of our Webby Worthy selections!"

Our site, www.billygraham.org was selected as Webby Worthy. You can see the listing under the alphabetic arrangement at:

We were listed as "The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association".

Don't leave me at home with the baby

Well here is some video footage of my day together with Isabella. Well atleast the part of the day where I should have been supervised. I took off her shirt so she could feed her self lunch. We are going into that phase where she wants to do everything for her self. After she was done with lunch her pants were covered in food. So I figured after lunch would be a good time to let her draw, I took her pants off and sat her on the table and just let her have at it. Some of the marker actually got on the paper and not on us. for 15 mos old she has real talent

Hey y'all buy some t-shirts

Here is my idea for building a product line of Designer T-Shirts. I am going to take my favorite fonts and provide a visual interpretation of that font. I am going to try and capture the style and mood of the type face. So for the first shirt I have used a font called porcelain from the type foundry MisPrinted type. Not all of the designs will be as literal as this one, but I think this is a good start.

Gay is a Naughty word for the NFL

The NFLShop.com refused to print the name of a player who’s last name just happened to be Gay. A former Professor, of the New England Patriots player Randall Gay, was told that “Gay” is in their list of naughty words. These “Naughty Words” are banned from being printed on the Jerseys of NFL teams. Well I thought gay meant happy and cheerful, how can this be a naughty word? The gay culture has redefined this word, the English dictionary validates this:
gayness n.
Usage Note: The word gay is now standard in its use to refer to homosexuals, in large part because it is the term that most gay people prefer in referring to themselves. Gay is distinguished from homosexual primarily by the emphasis it places on the cultural and social aspects of homosexuality as opposed to sexual practice.

Yes the dictionary lists the definitions of the word gay, and happy and cheerful is second after the definition of a sexual lifestyle. If gay no-longer means happy, then what does it mean to be glum?
